Gomoku is one of the traditional black-and-white chess games originating in ancient China. In historical books, there is a saying "the sun and the moon are like two round jade pieces joined together, and the five planets are like a string of pearls". It is mainly popular among the Chinese people and within the Chinese-character cultural circle and is the oldest chess game in the world. Usually, both sides use black and white chess pieces respectively and place them on the intersections of the vertical and horizontal lines of the chessboard. The one who first forms a line of five pieces wins.
五子棋起源于中国上古时代的传统黑白棋种之一，史书中"日月如合璧，五星如连珠"。主要流行于华人和汉字文化圈，是世界上最古老的棋。通常双方分别使用黑白两色的棋子，下在棋盘直线与横线的交叉点上，先形成5子连线者获胜。
